FLORIDA'S PIP BENEFITS AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT REMAINS UNRESOLVED
Is it really that hard to decide? Talk to any person who was involved in a car accident in Florida who didn't have health insurance and you will know that Floridians need Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits--something the Legislators are debating whether or not to keep.
As it stands now, the Florida Senate's bill requires a study of the insurance program to be completed by October 2010. Under the Senate's bill, PIP could not be extended after January 2012 unless reforms are made according to the recommendations of the study.
The Florida House of Representative's bill is totally different. The House wants to eliminate PIP and instead require $15,000 for coverage in emergency rooms and hospital-owned clinics immediately following an accident. THIS BILL IS RIDICULOUS!! We all know how impossible it is to get quick medical care in Florida's emergency rooms!! Let's fill up the emergency rooms with car accident victims to take the doctors away from those patients having heart attacks or strokes. Come on!! This Bill needs to fail. Call you Representative and tell them NO!!
The Legislature only has one week remaining to negotiate a compromise before their session ends on May 4th! Contact them and let them know that PIP is needed and not limited to just emergency room visits!
