Reckless Motorcyclists Now Face Fines

Wheelie_noyes_newsWe have all seen them--some motorcyclists speeding down a street when all of a sudden, they pop a wheelie.  This is dangerous to the motorcyclist and all the vehicles around them.  Easily, a car accident can occur.

Now, the Florida Legislature has taken a step to hopefully reduce such reckless behavior.  They have passed a bill that would fine a wheelie-popping motorcyclist $1000 for the first offense, $2500 for the second and $5000 and the possibility of fie years in prison for the third stunt.  The bill is awaiting Governor Crist's signature.

Speeding_noyes_newsIn addition, the bill increased the speeding fines for all vehicles to $1000 for traveling 50 MPH or more above the speed limit.  Personally, I don't think I have EVER driven 50 mph over the speed limit and find it hard to believe that others do.  If they do, then I think the fine should be even higher.  Speed at that level can result in serious car accidents and deaths and significant injuries.

Not all motorcyclists do wheelies.  Let's not throw all motorcyclists under the bus, but let's hold those reckless motorcyclists accountable for this risky behavior.  Similarly, hold the reckless automobile drivers accountable for their risky behavior.
