The studies differ depending on where you read it, but there is no dispute: The Fourth of July holiday is the most dangerous or second most dangerous day to drive. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the three days with the most car accidents on average from 1999-2008 (ten years) are as follows:
1. January 1 132.1 average crashes
2. July 4 131.5 average crashes
3. July 3 126.3 average crashes
According to AAA, the five most dangerous days on the road for teens during summer, in order are: July 4, June 10, August 14, August 8 and July 9. On average, more than 16 teens are killed in car crashes on each of these days.
So, enjoy the fireworks, picnics, family and fun, but drive carefully and watch out for those who don't.
