According to the Tampa Bay Times, Timothy Wysocki, 25, of Clearwater drove his Mercedes-Benz through a red light at Meridian Avenue N and Twiggs Street E about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday and crashed into a 2007 Corolla driven by Daniel Galloway. Sadly, Mr. Galloway's passenger, Bernadine Davis Smith died at the scene.
The paper also reports that an officer investigating the crash said Wysocki showed signs of alcohol impairment, and he was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where officers used a search warrant to force a blood test. From there Wysocki was taken to the Orient Road Jail.
Downtown Tampa can be a dangerous drive when the traffic from hockey games and/or shows let out, not to mention just the regulars on the road. Add drunk drivers and a tragedy is bound to happen. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Galloway and Smith family. I am sure that neither family expected not to see their friend or family member again all because of a drunk driver.
Drive safely and watch out for those who don’t.
