A Clearwater man died and his wife injured after they were involved in a left-turn related three-car automobile accident in Oldsmar Wednesday.
The crash happened 2:47 p.m. at the intersection of Tampa Road and St. Petersburg Drive. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle occupied by a husband and wife was driving west on Tampa Road when the driver made a left turn onto St. Petersburg Drive. Unfortunately, the driver drove the Cadillac DeVille into the path of a Jeep Liberty and a Ford Fusion. According to BayNews9, the drivers of the Jeep and the Ford both hit the brakes in an attempt to avoid hitting the Cadillac, but they were unable to do so.
The husband was in the passenger seat at the time. According to reports, the impact trapped him in the car, and it took crews 30 minutes to extricate him. He was taken by air to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died from his injuries at 4:17 p.m.
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to this widow and their families. Their pain and sadness may not go away, but maybe this car accident can save a future injuries and/or fatalities by reminding all drivers to wait before turning left in front of traffic.
Drive safely and watch out for those who don’t.
