With our car accident law firm right on the corner of Sunset Point and Belcher Road, we unfortunately see the aftermath of many automobile accidents that occur at or near this intersection. Although we did not see Sunday night's crash, many people must have seen the aftermath since the intersection was closed for 90 minutes.
According to The Clearwater Patch, a 1995 Dodge van was unexplainably heading northbound in the southbound lanes of Belcher Road at Sunset Point Road just before 7 p.m. on Sunday. Demetrios Lianidis was properly driving his Nissan Pathfinder in the southbound lanes when the van crashed head-on into him. It remains unclear as to why the driver of the van was headed in the wrong direction.
Both vehicles suffered heavy damage, and the driver of the van had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries. Mr. Lianidis was also injured and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.
This accident reminds us that even if we are the safest drivers, we can be injured in a car accident caused by another driver. So, drive carefully and watch out for those who don't.
